Sewing Machine Classes (Darebin/Merri-bek)

Join our weekly sewing machine classes and dive into the world of mending, upcycling, and DIY fashion!

We currently offer two after-school classes every Thursday at Keon Park Children's Hub and Friday classes in Coburg North at Merlynston Progress Hall.

We aim to group children by age so they feel comfortable and supported among peers. However, to keep class sizes balanced, there may occasionally be a mix of ages in each session.

We generally recommend that younger children join the 4:00pm class and older or more confident sewists attend the 5:30pm class. That said, we may adjust placements to ensure both groups stay balanced. This might mean your child is in a class with children slightly older or younger, but rest assured, every session is thoughtfully tailored to each child’s skill level and learning pace.

If you have any preferences or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out, we're happy to chat and find the best fit!

These hands-on sessions are perfect for young creators looking to build real-world sewing skills while exploring their creativity and learning about sustainable fashion.

In the first lessons, students focus on sewing machine safety and basic stitching techniques. As they build confidence, they move on to small projects to apply their new skills. By the second class, each child enrolled for the term receives a goody bag filled with essential sewing tools to support their learning journey.

Throughout the term, students learn to repair and personalise garments, complete exciting DIY projects, and develop valuable problem-solving skills. Whether your child is just starting out or has some experience, our small-group classes offer personalised support in a fun and encouraging environment.

  • Full-term enrolment $340

  • one-off session $39

  • Sibling and additional booking discount available (10% off)

Mobile Workshops & Incursions for Schools, Kindergartens, OSHC & School Holiday Programs

Learn to Stitch and Mend  – Hands-On Sewing Workshops for Kids

Bring the joy of sewing to your school, kindergarten, OSHC program, or holiday program with Little Stitch Academy’s engaging hands-on workshops!
Our sessions teach children the basics of sewing while sparking important conversations about sustainability and fast fashion.

Tailored for children from kindergarten to grade 6, each 90-minute workshop is adapted to suit the age and skill level of the group. Kids learn practical skills like simple stitching, sewing on a button, mending, and making basic garment repairs—while being encouraged to think critically about where their clothes come from and how to care for them.

Whether you're looking for a one-off incursion, a school holiday activity, or a multi-week program, we make sewing fun, meaningful, and accessible for all skill levels.

What to expect during a 90-minute workshop (up to 25 students):

  • Intro discussion (15–30 mins): An age-appropriate conversation about the impact of fast fashion and how kids can help reduce textile waste.

  • Hands-on sewing (60–75 mins): Students practice sewing a button, mending small holes, replacing drawstrings, and making simple clothing repairs, focused on school uniforms and everyday clothes.

Each child receives a sewing kit to use during the session, plus extra supplies to continue practicing at home.

We bring all materials, fabrics, and age-appropriate tools, you just provide the space!

School Bonus: Each student receives a goody bag filled with mending surprises, customised to their school colours such as mending patches, sewing kit and more.
