Important Booking Information

Our booking system allows one child per booking.

Please do not complete payment after each individual booking, otherwise the sibling discount will not apply.

Term 3 – 2026 (10 Weeks)

13 July – 18 September 2026

There are no public holidays this term.

Saturday classes include one session that falls during the school holidays and will run as usual. If your child is away during this period, we'll do our best to arrange a make-up class within the same term, subject to availability.

To maximise your chances of securing a make-up class, we recommend arranging any reschedules as early as possible. Availability may be limited towards the end of term, and make-up classes cannot be carried forward to the following term.

Little Stitch Academy's after-school sewing classes are open to school-aged children from Prep through to teens.

We are proud to be Melbourne's only dedicated sewing school teaching children from 6 years old.

Not sure if your child is ready?

You're welcome to book a casual class to see if it's the right fit. We'll help determine whether your child is ready to sew independently and safely.

📍 509 High Street, Preston VIC 3072

What We Do

In our 55-minute weekly classes, children learn to:

- Use a sewing machine safely and confidently

- Develop fine motor skills through tracing, cutting and sewing

- Explore beginner sewing projects and garment construction

- Build problem-solving skills, creativity and independence

Each child works on their own project at their own pace, with close supervision and individual guidance from their teacher. Students may be working on different projects and skill levels within the same class, allowing everyone to learn comfortably and progress with confidence.

Who Can Participate?

Classes are suitable for school-aged children from 6 years old through to teens.

While children are welcome in any session, the guide below may help you choose the most suitable class:

4:00pm – 5:00pm

Generally best suited to younger children and beginners who enjoy an earlier session and gentle, beginner-friendly projects.

5:00pm – 6:00pm

A mixed-age, mixed-ability class with a great balance of ages and experience levels.

6:00pm – 7:00pm

Often preferred by older, more independent children and teens.

These are recommendations only. Sewing is highly individual, and mixed ages are never a problem.

Children are welcome to try different sessions, and enrolled students may reschedule into another class if they would like to explore a different day or time, subject to availability.

Morning Sessions (Thursday & Friday)

Our Thursday and Friday morning sessions are semi-private sewing classes open to both children and adults.

These sessions provide a calm, supportive learning environment and are ideal for home-schooled students, adults wanting to learn during the day, parents and children learning together, or anyone who prefers a quieter class setting.

Because these sessions run during school hours, class sizes are often very small or even private, allowing for plenty of individual support and guidance.

The atmosphere is naturally calm and sensory-friendly, with little to no background music. We warmly welcome students of all abilities and experience levels.

Classes are project-based and tailored to each participant. Students can work through studio projects or bring along their own project if there is something specific they would like to learn or create.

Sessions can be booked for one or two hours, either as a casual lesson or as a regular weekly class.

Bookings are available on our website under Casual Classes.

Safety & Privacy

We teach strong safety habits and supervise closely at all times.

Minor needle pricks or small accidents may occasionally occur. This is a normal part of learning to sew and is always managed calmly and safely.

To respect the privacy of all children:

- No photos of children's faces are taken during class

- If you would like a photo of your child sewing, please speak with us and we can arrange this separately

Mobile phones are not permitted during class. Students are asked to keep phones away for the duration of the session.

Make-Up Classes

We understand that sometimes plans change.

If your child is unable to attend, please notify us at least 6 hours before an evening class or 12 hours before a morning class. We'll do our best to arrange a make-up class within the same term, subject to availability.

Please note:

- Make-up classes are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

- We encourage families to arrange make-up classes as early as possible, as availability may become limited later in the term.

- If your child is unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Make-up classes cannot be arranged after an unexplained absence.

- Missed classes cannot be refunded, credited or carried forward to a future term.

- To ensure safe supervision, make-up requests may occasionally be declined if a class is already full.

We will always do our best to help students stay on track and continue progressing confidently with their sewing projects.

Neurodiverse Learners

Sewing can be a wonderful creative outlet for many neurodiverse children. The structured, hands-on nature of sewing encourages focus, problem-solving, fine motor development and independence, while allowing children to work at their own pace.

At Little Stitch Academy, we understand that every child learns differently. We strive to create a calm, welcoming environment where children feel safe, supported and encouraged to build confidence through creativity. While our classes can be busy, our teachers do their best to adapt their approach to each child's needs and help every student experience success.

If your child has any additional needs, please feel free to contact us before booking so we can discuss whether our classes are likely to be a good fit.
