Casual Sewing Classes (Drop-In Sessions)
Important: Our booking system allows one child per booking.
If you are booking for multiple children, please add each child to the cart separately before checking out.
Simply repeat the booking process for each child and add them to your cart, then complete one single checkout for all bookings together.
The sibling discount will automatically apply at checkout when multiple children are booked in the same transaction.
Please do not complete payment after each booking, otherwise the discount will not apply.
Our casual sewing classes run at the same time as our full-term program and are ideal for families who prefer flexibility, or for children trying sewing for the first time before committing to a full term.
Casual classes take place in our Preston studio and are open to all school-aged children, from 6 to teens (please not that some sessions are also open to adults - read below for more info). As with all our programs, we are proud to welcome young makers from age five.
Location: 18/509 High Street, Preston VIC 3072
What We Do
In each 55-minute class, children learn to:
- Use the sewing machine safely
- Mend and upcycle
- Explore beginner fashion design
Each child works on their own project at their own pace.
Children booked into casual sessions may be given a smaller or shorter project so they can finish within a single class.
Who Can Participate
Our classes are open to school-aged children, from 6 years old up to teens.
While everyone is welcome in any time slot, here’s a simple guide to help choose the best fit:
- 4–5pm
Best for younger children and beginners who enjoy an earlier session and gentle, beginner-friendly projects.
- 5–6pm
A mixed-age, all-levels class. This session often has a good balance of ages, and everyone gets along beautifully.
- 6–7pm
Often preferred by older, more independent children and teens. Sewing is individual, so mixed ages are never an issue — everyone works at their own pace and on their own project.
These are only recommendations. Children are welcome to join any class that suits your family’s schedule.
Friday Morning & Wednesday Evening Sessions
Our Friday morning sessions, along with our Wednesday evening sessions, are open to both children and adults who wish to learn sewing or work on their own projects in a supportive environment. These sessions are ideal for children who aren’t available on other days, adults wanting to learn specific skills such as hemming or mending, beginners looking for guidance, parents and children learning together, or anyone who prefers a quieter, low-stimulation setting. As they run outside of peak after-school hours, they are often smaller in size, allowing for more individual support. The atmosphere is naturally calm and sensory-friendly, with low to no background music. Participants can either follow studio projects or bring their own, working at their own pace with guidance from the teacher. Sessions can be booked for one or two hours at a time (please note that Friday evening classes are reserved for children only).
Safety
We teach strong, consistent safety habits and supervise closely at all times. As with any hands-on craft, small needle pricks or minor accidents may occasionally occur, and we always manage them calmly and safely.
We respect the privacy of all children, so no photos are allowed during class. If you’d like a photo of your child sewing, please speak with us to organise one.
Pricing
$42 per class
All sewing materials and sewing-machine use are included.
Book 2 or more classes and enjoy a multi-booking discount.
What to Bring
Nothing is required. Children may bring:
- A water bottle
- A small snack if needed
All sewing materials and equipment are provided.
We do not permit mobile phone use during class, so children are asked to keep their phones away for the duration of the session.
Parent & Sibling Access
For safety reasons, parents and siblings are not permitted inside the sewing room during class time.
Parents don’t need to stay, but you’re welcome to relax in our parent area. Power points are available if you’d like to work while you wait.
Entry, Exit & Supervision
- For safety, the front door remains locked during class.
- The door is opened between sessions to let children in and out safely.
- No child is permitted to leave the studio unaccompanied.
If a parent is running late, children will wait safely in the waiting room until collected.
Please ensure you arrive on time for both drop-off and pick-up.
Make-Up Classes
We understand that sometimes plans change. If your child is unable to attend, please notify us at least 6 hours before class. We will do our best to arrange a make-up class during the same term, subject to availability. Unfortunately, late cancellations (less than 6 hours' notice) and no-shows cannot be made up, as places are held specifically for enrolled students.
